Photos of an old-fashioned congee shop in Barra (媽閣), Macau

Here's some shots taken on 15 Feb. 2006 of a real local congee shop in Barra (媽閣), Macau along (河邊新街). As you can see some of the dishes and congee are made outside of the premises in a tin stall. However, this place is not worth going. We ordered a side dish of stir-fried broccoli for MOP15. But the amount of broccoli amounted to a few cut pieces. So, I don't think I'll go here again.
A funny incident happened last night when I arrived at the Macau Ferry Terminal and took Transmac bus no. 3A (towards Portas do Cerco). An old lady entered the bus and asked the bus driver, "I dropped the bus fare on the road, can I still get on the bus?'. The bus driver replied, 'Of course not!'. Thus, the old lady got off the bus and began searching for her lost change on the road. The bus had left her at the bus stop.
I happened to see an accident while eating sweet pudding on a sidestreet dessert shop on 巴素打爾古街 on 17 Feb. 2006. A lady tried to cross the busy thoroughfare when a moped clipped her on the leg. All you hear is a loud "bang" due to the moped falling on to the ground. Thankfully, the lady wasn't injured at all, as the moped must have clipped her purse instead of her body. The driver of the moped must have been scared so he stopped abruptly and thus the moped tipping on to the road surface. This road is the main thoroughfare along the eastern side of Macau peninsula. Don't get me wrong. It is only a 2-lane street. But crossing the street is really hazardous.

The cooking cart reminds me of dining on the street in Thailand and Malaysia. Hope they won't be replaced for sanitary reasons, as they did in hk and Singapore.
There are plenty of these cooking carts around the Macau peninsula, eg. in Barra, Fai Chi Kei and Centro districts. However, over in Taipa, non-existent! Yes, I like these carts very much as it is the true culture of this region.
hahah the poor old lady! the bus driver should have given her some sympathy! ;-)
eek, would have been a bloody mess if the moped cliped her leg.. :(
Bus drivers in Macau are infamous for impoliteness. Don't know if you'll have a chance to come here. This place will shock you.
ehhe shock us in a bad way ;-)
I guess you can call it "Culture shock".
